Lay Pioneer and Lay Evangelist Ministries in our Diocese

Evangelism is sharing the good news of Jesus. The Church, the Body of Christ, is called to share the good news of Jesus and does so in a myriad of ways. Whenever and wherever the Church gathers it proclaims the Gospel message and the gathered Body of Christ is then sent out to share the good news of Jesus in the communities and contexts where they live and work.

We have two types of Evangelist:

  • Licensed Parish Church Evangelist known as Lay Evangelist

  • Licensed Pioneer Evangelist known as Lay Pioneer

Lay Evangelists encourage their parish church family to reach out to the wider community and be invitational back to the gatherings within the context of the parish church. They lead on enabling and encouraging the church family to share their faith in their everyday lives.

Lay Pioneers are called to carry and proclaim the good news of Jesus beyond the walls of the parish church in a markedly different way to that of the Lay Evangelist. A Lay Pioneer leads a team of people who seek to discern where God is already at work in the wider community and step into God’s invitation to join in. They are innovators who go beyond the parish church setting to tell the story of Jesus in creative, informal ways connecting with the stories and lives of the people in their locality. They seek to establish new contextual Christian communities where people gather.
